Meet the Dogs!

  • A happy, energetic and affectionate young boy, Leo has put in the time and work to be at his best. Great in the home and a loving companion, he will thrive and build strong bonds with skilled and confident people who will be as devoted to his snuggles as they are to his continued training.
  • Bentley traveled around the world for a second chance at life. Active, energetic, friendly, affectionate and often puppy-like, he seeks people who will invest as much time in training as they do in adventuring!
  • Bruno is a young, big hunk of Labrador love! Playful, friendly, and good with other dogs, he will thrive in a home of big sturdy people willing to invest some time, attention, and love.
  • Active, fun-loving, and sweet, Doug is very social with people and dogs. In need of sturdy people who will help him fill in some training gaps, he’ll reward you with loyalty and a lifetime of shared adventures.
  • A happy and active young man who is happiest with his people. Good house manners with many basic skills, he has a tendency to roam if left outside alone but thrives in the company of loving homebodies like him.
  • Loyal and true as Labrador Retrievers are, Honey is sweet but shy in new situations. Great in the home, accepting of other nice dogs, and maybe OK with a kitty, Honey blossoms with patience and loving care.
  • This happy, fun-loving boy is looking for people to share his life with. A big boy who needs sturdy people and best as an only dog, he is in search of a family that is as dedicated to training as play!
  • A happy, affectionate boy who enjoys the company of people who respect his need for personal space. Filled with wanderlust, he needs an adult-only household with people who are home a lot.
  • Reba was rescued from a life destined for making puppies. Shy and scared initially, this world is new to her. She blossoms in the company of another dog as she will with your patient guidance and loving care.
  • With a gentle and quiet soul, Rosy made the perfect mom to endless litters of puppies. She has put that life behind her and is learning the ways of a loved family dog - a life she has well earned and deserves!
  • Trained for a life on the hunt, Ruby has hung up that career for the life of a family dog. Smart, spunky, loyal, and active, Ruby is people-loving but best as the only dog in the home. She needs active, conscientious people who understand and respect her desire to be your one and only.
  • Playful, active, always search of a good time! Nick is puppy-like and in need of training. Invest the time and patience for a happy, affectionate family member who is always up for adventure!
  • Stanley is a handsome, huggable, and lovable two-year-old boy in search of a special someone who sees different as differently-gifted and will help him complete his journey to his best self.

Adoption Eligibility

Homeward Bound generally adopts dogs within Northern California and Northern Nevada. Some exceptions may be made in special situations.

We are looking for safe, loving homes with people committed to the dog’s health and happiness and who will consider the dog as a family member, living and sleeping inside. While some of our dogs come from loving homes, all have been unexpectedly uprooted. Many come with training, confidence-building, or care needs that should be supported with positive reinforcement, patience, and ample time to bring out the best in your new companion.

We generally require that you have a fenced yard (exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis).

We ask that you are realistic about the right dog for your lifestyle and that you trust in our experience in making these matches.

Dog Ratings

The Level 1 dog is an easy dog with typically low energy level and has no behavioral issues. This level of dog would do well in virtually any home regardless of owner experience.

Level 2 has energy that can range from low to high. This dog needs average leadership, generally lacking obedience and/or house manners, but responds well to training. This level may have other minor issues that are easy to address.

Level 3, moderate, high or very high energy/drive. Level 3 dogs typically have a challenging behavior, but are good dogs. These dogs might have an intense focus to work, be dog reactive or dog aggressive, may have to be an only animal in the home, or may require daily physical and mental stimulation, etc. These dogs can be strong, pushy and/or dominant. This level of dog is not an average pet. This dog needs an experienced owner familiar with how to provide direct leadership and proper management as well as the commitment to provide the dog with the guidance and training he/she needs to be successful.
