Cosmo

Meet Cosmo, the dog who walks into a crowd of strangers and immediately tries to climb into someone’s lap. This stunning Flat Coat/Golden mix never had anyone in his corner before. He’s ready for that to change.

  • Striking two-year-old Flat Coat/Golden Retriever mix, athletic, handsome, and full of personality
  • Breeder dog who never had one-on-one attention or training; he’s learning each day; needs continued training and a good coach
  • Needs daily exercise and consistent structure; an active, committed home will bring out his best
  • Food motivated and potential counter surfer; toys around other dogs need management
  • Calm and confident with dogs; some dogs okay (prefers girls); Cats Unlikely; Kids 13+

Hi, I’m Cosmo. I’m two years old, half Golden Retriever, half Flat Coated Retriever, and I came to Homeward Bound from Oregon with five of my brothers and sisters. We were loved, but there were a lot of us, and individual attention wasn’t really part of the deal. No training, no rules, no one person who was just mine. I’m hoping to change that last part soon. Here’s what I want you to know about me: I recently went to my first big public outing, a whole event with crowds and vendors and dogs everywhere, and I was great.  Walked nicely on leash. Said hello to every person I met like they were my long-lost best friend, diving straight into their laps. Not a hint of trouble around other dogs. (Check out my video below.) The only thing that got me was the food samples on the vendor tables, and honestly, can you blame me? Fair warning: I am very food motivated, which is excellent news for training and probably means you’ll want to keep an eye on your counters.

I love soft toys more than almost anything (we won’t talk about what eventually happens to the squeakers). However, I do like to keep them to myself around other dogs. Hence, toys and multi-dog households are best managed closely. Big kids 13+ sound like excellent partners in chaos. Cats probably won’t work out.

I have some things to learn, but the foundation is there. What I need is someone who gets Flat Coats, who knows that this breed runs hot, thinks big, and absolutely requires a job and a purpose. Daily exercise isn’t optional for me; it’s the whole plan. Same with training. But if you’re the kind of person who’s energized by that, who wants a dog that will reward every bit of effort you put in, I think we’d be something special together.

I’ve never had one person who was really, truly mine. If you’re the patient, active, dog-savvy human I’ve been waiting for, I’m right here.
