Tommy

Tommy arrived with a lot of energy and even more potential. This clever, affectionate Golden boy has made tremendous strides at training and at foster. He’s looking for dog-skilled people committed to his training program and ready to channel all that puppy enthusiasm into something wonderful.

  • Young, energetic, and enthusiastically all-puppy…with a heart of gold to match
  • House trained; crate-trained; learns house rules quickly when positively reinforced
  • Completed board and train obedience; knows multiple commands; needs someone committed to continuing his training regime
  • Dog Selective, best as only dog for now; Cats Unknown; Kids 13+
  • Loves fetch, swimming, car rides, frozen Kong treats, and hanging with his peeps

Hi there! I’m eight-month-old Tommy, and I have a confession to make: I came in a little ruff around the edges. But here’s the thing about me: I am a very fast learner, and I have been working hard to show everyone what I’m made of. Spoiler: it’s a lot of Golden.

I was an outdoor pup living with other dogs who were not exactly excited about my being there. I had zero training and even less impulse control so Homeward Bound invested heavily in getting me the right foundation. At board and train, I learned about structure, boundaries, and how to be a really good boy!

At foster, my new skills are on full display. I have good house manners and learned the house rules quickly. I walk well on leash, am crate-trained, love to play and swim, and I am learning new skills every day. Jumping and mouthing were my thing, but with the lessons I learned applied consistently, they have almost been eliminated. Heck, I even spent a few hours hanging out with the ladies in the office! We all agree: it’s absolutely essential that whoever adopts me will continue my training routine. My fosters say I’m an absolute pleasure, and I believe them!

I’m still figuring out the social stuff with other dogs. I didn’t get the right start in that department either and my enthusiasm can get the best of me. I’m better off as the only dog in the home for now. Homeward Bound can connect you with my great trainers for more work in the dog department so I can learn to read dog body language and pump the brakes when necessary.  I haven’t met any cats, so that’s a mystery for another day. And I think older kids who are also committed to helping a pup stay polite would be pretty great company!

Most of all, I need people with solid dog skills and who understand that puppies aren’t born perfect; they’re made that way with consistency and love. Positive reinforcement goes a very long way with me. My fosters will tell you: when someone takes the time to guide me, I rise to the occasion every single time. I travel great in the car, I sleep quietly in my crate, and I enjoy being brushed and bathed. I’m basically the total package, just still unwrapping. Is that your kind of adventure?
