Hi there! I’m eight-month-old Tommy, and I have a confession to make: I came in a little ruff around the edges. But here’s the thing about me: I am a very fast learner, and I have been working hard to show everyone what I’m made of. Spoiler: it’s a lot of Golden.
I was an outdoor pup living with other dogs who were not excited about my being there. Our altercations left me uncomfortable around dogs but still in love with humans. I had zero training and even less impulse control so Homeward Bound invested heavily in getting me the right foundation. At board and train, I learned about structure, boundaries, and how to be a really good boy!
At foster, my new skills are on full display. I have good house manners and learned the house rules quickly. I walk well on leash, am crate-trained, love to play and swim, and I am learning new skills every day. Jumping and mouthing were my thing, but with the lessons I learned applied consistently, they have almost been eliminated. Heck, I even spent a few hours hanging out with the ladies in the office! We all agree: it’s absolutely essential that whoever adopts me will continue my training routine. My fosters say I’m an absolute pleasure, and I believe them!
I don’t know anything about social stuff with other dogs. I didn’t get the right start and am still a work in progress in that department. In the right hands, I can walk calmly by other dogs. But I need a confident and attentive human to guide me. Homeward Bound can connect you with my great trainers for more work in the dog department so I can learn to read dog body language and we can learn, together, how to pump the brakes when necessary. I haven’t met any cats, so that’s a mystery for another day. And I think older kids who are also committed to helping a pup stay polite would be pretty great company!
Most of all, I need people with solid dog skills and who understand that puppies aren’t born perfect; they’re made that way with consistency and love. Positive reinforcement goes a very long way with me. My fosters will tell you: when someone takes the time to guide me, I rise to the occasion every single time. I travel great in the car, I sleep quietly in my crate, and I enjoy being brushed and bathed. I’m basically the total package, just still unwrapping. Is that your kind of adventure?
