Rusty

Rusty spent eight happy years as his dad’s dog and former hunting companion, until his  new trucking life on the road meant leaving Rusty behind. This handsome, red, Golden boy still has plenty of fetch, swim, cuddles and love left to give the right family.

  • Eight-year-old golden boy, 71 pounds of red fur and good manners
  • A retired hunting companion he now seeks human companionship most of all
  • Needs an active home with exercise at least twice a day; loves hiking, camping, and the outdoors
  • Good with most nice dogs; high prey drive – No Cats; Kids 7+
  • Knows a full lineup of commands: Sit, Down, Stay, Come, Shake, Fetch. Does take treats hard.

I’m Rusty, eight years old, and until recently I had exactly one home my whole life. My dad got me as a pup. He said I helped him to have me to focus on when he got out of the military. We hunted together for many years, and I was about as close to that man as a dog can get. His job changed; he’s out on the road now driving trucks, and there’s no room for a big red dog like me in that rig. Life takes unexpected turns and I’m hoping it doesn’t take long to find my next person.

What I do best is to keep moving. Give me a ball and I’ll fetch it all day. Give me a lake or a pool and I’ll happily disappear into it for an afternoon. I’m built for hiking trails and campsites, so if your idea of a good weekend involves a backpack, I’m already packed.

I’ve lived alongside dogs of every size, from tiny ones to giants, without any trouble, and I’m genuinely good around kids, I spent plenty of time with them growing up. Cats are not for me. My hunting instincts kick in around anything small and fast, so a cat-free household is best for everyone.

A couple of extra things to know about me: I get a little overexcited when treats come out, so a flat hand or fist works better than fingers. And I eat fast enough that a slow feeder bowl keeps me from overdoing things. Otherwise, I’m easygoing, I know my commands, I walk nicely on leash, and I just want to be near some people of my own again.
