Hello, I’m Purdy! I’m a nearly two-year-old boy who was trained for competitive obedience. I already know quite a bit and I am always ready to learn more. I’m told I’m a SMART boy (their capital letters, not mine), and I just want my people to be as invested in me as I am in them.

I love to run and play with my toys, whether that’s on my own or with a friend, and I am very food motivated, which the good people here say makes me easy to train. I do get a little too excited sometimes and jump straight up when the training stops or the fun ramps up, but I’m told that’s an easy habit to fix with the right person guiding me. I can also be a bit of a puller on leash, though I do much better with a harness and some gentle corrections.

I got a little too snippy with the other dogs in the ring. It turns out, I may have missed some important socialization early on and I am unsure of other dogs’ intentions. That may change, but it will take time and a good plan. The folks here think I’d be happiest as the one and only dog in my new family, without cats around either. I think older kids, thirteen and up, would understand me best. Once I get to know people, though (which takes a hot minute!), I am the most affectionate guy…I’ll lean right into you and demand a good ear scratch. I am happiest without the pressure of performances. I just wanna be a dog!
