Lyra

Give this girl your patience, skill, and predictable home. Match her with a companion dog to show her the way. Then watch her slowly blossom in your loving care. It will change your heart as much as you change her future.

  • Shy and timid girl with a heart that wants to be won
  • Needs a calm and predictable home with patient people who will celebrate her progress in baby steps forward
  • Good house manners; gentle; MUST have a second dog to help guide her
  • Good with most nice dogs; Cats Unknown; Adult-only Household
  • Watching her slowly blossom is its own reward

Hello…I say…peeking at you from my corner. I am Lyra. At only one year of age, I was found hiding under a bridge. Terrified. I prefer to forget my history, but the people here suspect it was part of a breeding operation with little or no human socialization. Add abandoned in the wilderness and you get ‘terrified.’ I am a dog for a person with a true heart for rescue. I have been at foster for a couple of weeks, and while my fears can be challenging, my foster people say the rewards are enormous as they reflect on my slow progress since they brought me home. I gain confidence in baby steps and setbacks can be expected. I absolutely MUST have one or more dogs who are accepting and supportive of my needs and will help guide me to become a more confident girl. I adore my foster brother and frequently instigate play with him. By watching him with our people, trust is built, and little victories are won. I need a quiet and predictable adult home with few visitors. My people should be sensitive and attuned to my body language, allowing me to set the pace at first, keeping me safe, but also believing in what I am capable of to gently encourage me forward. Clearly, I’m asking a lot of a very kind and patient person experienced or sensitive to the needs of a very shy dog. Homeward Bound is here to help and every step I make will truly melt your heart. You may not be able to change the world for all dogs – but you can change mine. Here’s hoping that you are out there and that you will see through to my heart when we meet.
