Lava was adopted as a puppy by a family who wasn’t quite ready for the energetic young dog she’d become. Affectionate and eager to please, she just needs someone patient enough to help her feel brave around new dogs while she settles into her forever home.

Hi, I’m Lava. My family brought me home as a puppy, but somewhere along the way I grew into a bigger, livelier dog than they’d bargained for. So here I am, one year old and starting fresh.
My energy is about as normal as young-dog energy gets; I’m playful and affectionate, and there’s nothing I love more than flopping over for a belly rub. I know sit and come, and I walk nicely on leash, unless I spot a dog I’d like to say hello to, then all bets are off.
Truthfully, new dogs make me nervous at first; my tail tucks and I stiffen up until I’ve had a minute to adjust. Slow, gentle introductions work best for me. Once I’m comfortable, though, I genuinely want to play. I might do fine with cats too, and kids 10 and up sound like wonderful company.
A patient family willing to help me build confidence, plus some daily walks to burn off my youthful energy, is really all I’m asking for. Give me the chance to settle in, and I think you’ll love who I become.
