Hi everyone! My name is Johnny, I’m a one-year-old Golden, and I’m basically a brand-new notebook with nothing written in it yet. I came to Homeward Bound by way of a shelter in Tulare, along with my brother Pauley, and every day since has been full of firsts. I weigh 56 pounds, and I’m still learning how to manage all of them.

I’m a curious guy. I want to sniff everything, meet everybody, and see what’s behind every door. My greeting style needs work, I admit: I get so excited about people that I launch myself at them before I remember my manners. The funny part is that I’m shy right up until the moment I decide you’re wonderful, and then it’s all happy wiggles. That’s why I need people who can explain the rules of the human world clearly and kindly, while helping me feel brave about meeting new faces and getting comfortable around all kinds of people.

Other dogs seem pretty great to me. I had a polite meet-and-greet with a fellow here and we mostly sniffed things out, but I think I’d learn to play with a little practice. As for cats, we’ve never been introduced. And because my jumping skills are sometimes stronger than my self-control, kids 13 and up are the safest company for now.

What I need most is a person who looks at a puppy who missed the early education and thinks, “fun project!” Someone who will take me on daily walks, cheer me along when I lag behind, and teach me the basics, like where all four of my feet belong when somebody walks through the door.
