Hello, hello! Rowan here, a four-year-old Golden with a passport story. I began life in China, and after a very long trip across the world, I landed at Homeward Bound with my manners intact and my luggage, well, nonexistent. The folks here treated me like royalty, and I’ve tried to return the favor.

Think of me as the friendly ambassador of any room. I greet strangers like old friends, take a good ear scratch very seriously, and consider brushing as a full spa day. I’ve picked up some more skills along the way: sit, shake, and a mean game of fetch. On a walk I keep a gentleman’s pace and let you steer. Fair warning, I can be bought. Squeaky toys are nice, but a pocket full of snacks is real friendship. Unfortunately, the people here say to go easy on those. I could shed a few pounds. I collected a few extra pounds on my travels, and I’d happily hand them over to a family who wants an excuse to get outside. I do file a loud complaint if you leave me alone in the yard too long, because company is kind of my thing.

Other dogs? Love them, in a live-and-let-live kind of way. I’ll say a proper hello and then we can both get on with our day. Pushy pals don’t ruffle me, and when the yard got rowdy, I stayed cool and enjoyed the show. I’m more of a spectator than a star athlete. I haven’t had a real sit-down with a cat, but the one who darted past me got a shrug, so I’m optimistic. Kids 10 and up sound like a great fit, especially the kind who enjoy a long stroll and aren’t too generous with the snacks.

Doc says that down the road I may have some arthritis (won’t we all!) What I’m after is a semi-family who sees a daily walk as an event rather than a chore, because that’s where I do my best work and keeping me slim, trim and fit is the best medicine for future me.
