Part of a rescue from a large breeding operation, Guinevere (affectionately known as Gwen) was one of 33 dogs welcomed in May and one of two that were pregnant. Three weeks later, she gave birth to 11 puppies. At two years of age, she had been through this before…more than once. Unsocialized to humans, she is shy and timid with people, but a devoted mom…always rushing back to her babes and forever doing her own headcount to keep track of them all. While they relentlessly pestered and stalked her, she was a patient and loving mom. With her puppies all home, it’s Gwen’s turn to find a forever home of her own. She is off at foster, decompressing and being spoiled and pampered. She is still shy, but easily managed if you go slow – and gradually developing trust and confidence. It takes time, patience, and a tender heart to bond with her – but she has shown she will lean into love. When she feels comfortable, she will show her playful side, bounding across the yard, collecting all her toy babies, and soaking up pets. A second, calm dog may be a help to her, but is not a requirement. At foster, she has learned house manners, finds safety in her crate but is increasingly coming out seeking company, and recently discovered the joys of an actual dog bed! This gentle girl with a Golden heart has raised her last litter of pups. She has more than earned the chance to begin a fresh new chapter in a home of her own.
