I'm Sonoma and I guess, the elder statesmen around here…..somewhere around 15 years old. I have been living with my son Shadow but he recently passed on and now I'm just a lonely ole coot looking for a place to spend the rest of my Golden years. I have excellent house manners and love being with people of all ages. Shadow used to pick fights with the other dogs and I would have to jump in and cover his butt! Now that he's gone I have been going around apologizing to all the other dogs and even going for evening walks with some of them. I would still rather be an only dog because, I would like it to be "all about me" for a the rest of my life. I still love to swim and yes, my bags are still packed!

Update: 
 I have moved to a foster home and am having so much fun! I get to go for rides in the car and there is even a cat here for me to study.......strange creature!

My name is Clara and I am a 12 year old girl. I have been hanging out at a food rehab home. They decided because I was slightly overweight that it must be an addiction to food. That was until they tested my thyroid and found out the lazy ole thing needs some extra meds to kick it into gear. Now I have lost some weight and have never felt better! It is time for me to find my forever home and enjoy the rest of my life. I love everybody including other dogs. I am good in the house and have no medical issues other than a couple of pills each day for my lazy thyroid and I do understand all things in moderation so you can forget those nasty "food addition" rumors!

I am about 11 years old and staying in a really great foster home, finally I can let my hair down and be myself. I am even playing with toys! My favorite thing in the whole world is FOOD and I am highly skilled at finding it! My foster mom has had to "kid proof" the kitchen because not only can I open cupboards but I have even learned how to open the oven.....boy, is some good stuff in there! My foster mom describes me as very entertaining with a ton of personality. Last week I had a "doggie stroke", I am fine now but one side of my face doesn't' smile as big as the other side.

I am a 10 year old girl and a confirmed people person…..I do not like other dogs, never have, never will! I am a very pretty girl and have always been able to get by on my good looks, but now my family wants a dog who gets along with other dogs and that just isn't who I am. I know how basic commands and am a very enjoyable companion as long as there are no other dogs involved. 

Update: 
 My foster mom says that I can stay inside all day with no accidents or incidents and then love to go for a walk. I adore people of all sizes and am a great companion plus I love to snuggle.

I would best be described as a "country gentleman"; I am 10 years old but by no means over the hill. I prefer the refined life of lords and ladies with maybe a fox hunt thrown in. I see myself with a plaid wool scarf, casually wrapped around my neck, resting by the fire. Or maybe a quiet walk through the countryside wearing a stylish mackintosh. Hey, dogs can dream too!

Update: 
 I moved into the same foster home as Coal, we have so much in common and are having a splendid time together. We go on long walks, sometimes as much as three miles! We both like other dogs, cats and especially children.....almost as much as we like food!

Foster Update: 
 My foster family wants you to know that I only walk about a mile and enjoy a leisurely pace and love being in the house. They say that I am very low maintenance and a joy to have around!

Don't be put off by my name….I'm really not a clock, just a great big, ole Golden Retriever! I am 10 years old now and looking for a place to hang my leash. You will notice I have some hair missing in spots, the story is that I was losing my trim figure so I had some lypo suction done, now I'm one good-looking dude! Ok, the real story is I got rid of a lot of fatty lumps and bumps and am ready to roll.... but still a good looking dude! The people here say that I am a great big, sweet, snuggly teddy bear.

Update: 
 I got to move into a foster home and boy am I having fun! They have dogs, cats and chickens! The cats are cool and let me hang out with them, the chickens haven't let me catch them yet, but I'm going to keep trying. My foster parents aren't too worried cause I move pretty slow and if I do gain any speed I tend to weave and stumble. I hate having chickens laugh at me! I get to go for walks with the other dogs with out wearing a leash and that's just way cool! One of the things I really like to do is cuddle and my foster family is very obliging.....ask me what I want out of life and it would be a forever home just like my foster home, except I want really slow chickens!

Foster Update: 
 My foster mom took me to the Doggie Doctor today to have my hips and spine x-rayed. They were afraid I had dysplasia because I tend to be clumsy. Doc says I have some arthritis and maybe some time in my life I had a back injury that I have learned to overcome. ( I think I am just clumsy). I liked meeting all the other dogs at the Doctors and I have lost another 3 pounds! Still dreaming of that chicken dinner.......guess that's what dreams are for!

I'm Lettie, a 9 year old beautiful redheaded girl. I came in with my adopted sister, Bebe, so if you want two dogs I would highly suggest taking her too! We will be ok going our separate ways but it would be nice if we had another dog to hang out with. Our family couldn't keep us anymore because when left alone, we tended to wander off. I have excellent house manners and even have had some obedience training. Both of us would like to find a home with more people time, it gets lonely just hanging around waiting for someone to come home.

I am Libby and boy do I ever have a story to tell you! I am an 8 year old girl and my family couldn't take care of me so they sent me to a shelter who in turn, sent me to Homeward Bound. After talking to the other dogs I found out that this isn't uncommon and that Homeward Bound will find me a new home and everything is going to be ok. That's all fine and good but I left behind my sister who is also 8 years old. A week later, I am laying around thinking about all the fun we used to have and who walks in....my sister Brandy! Seems our family couldn't keep her either so they sent her to the shelter, who sent her to Homeward Bound! I tell you there was so much jumping around and tail wagging you would think it had been a month since we were together! We got to go outside and play and when we came back in, we were shown to a bigger room where we could be together and, best yet, the people here say that we are going to our new home together! You really won't notice that there are two of us, we just hang out together and keep each other company.....ok, you will need two food bowls! I thought I had lost Brandy forever, it is so good to have her back with me.

Boy was I living the dream! All of my life, all 7 years of them, the only thing expected of me was to entertain the ladies and insure a constant supply of puppies. Well, all that's changed now and I have to start looking at my second career opportunities. I am a big boy and have never really gotten the hang of that leash thing so will need someone strong enough to keep up with me. I'm still one good looking dude and all my parts are working....except for that one the people had removed, I'm sure they had their reasons.

I am Daisy and I have spent my entire adult life being a mommy. I am 7 years old now and it's time for life to be all about me! I was adopted for awhile but I got so lonely for the company of another dog that the family brought me back so I would have a chance at being in a home with another dog. I used to live with Duke and I really like hanging out with him but the people say if you take the two of us you are signing on for a couple of "silly nillies". We do have fun together and because we have know each other so long it's like between the two of there is only one brain!

Foster Update: 
I got to move into a really great foster home....other dogs, kids, tennis balls and best of all a swimming pool! I have full house privileges and am even learning how to use the dog door.

Hi fan club….I'm back! You used to know me as Gretchen and quite a few of you wanted me, I hope you haven't forgotten me. I go by Annie now and I am 7 years old. Sadly, once again, I find myself in need of a new home. I have picked up some pounds so am not as light on my feet as I used to be, but I am going to work on it and get my girlish figure back! I love to go for walks and am the best ever on a leash....guess I need to go for longer walks and use a smaller food bowl. I have perfect house manners and still love those tummy rubs. I am ok with other dogs but still think people make much better friends. I am in a great foster home where I get to walk by the river....they promised to help me with my new weight goals....111 pounds and going down! I will keep you updated with my progress.

I'm about 6 years old now, I was here once before but it didn't work out the way I hoped. It was a really great home but they wanted me to walk on a leash with a bunch of other dogs. I got myself into some trouble mouthing off to a few of the dogs so the people asked my family not to bring me to the dog walk area. I didn't hurt anyone, just voiced my opinion. I'm not saying those other dogs are a bunch of snobs but I didn't have any trouble getting along with the guys at Camp Bow Wow, us guys romped all over the place together. I have really great house manners so if you don't mind not having to go for walks and we can just play in our own yard I'm the one you have been looking for!

Update: 
I have been staying in a foster home and have doing much better on my walks....I got a "B" on my last foster report! I do bark when I see another dog but it's only to say hi and then I'm on my way. I love to go for rides in the car and got a "A" on my house manners. I just had some surgery so look like a patchwork quilt on one side but just the same on the other side! My foster mom thinks I would be fine with another dog but not a cat. Most have something to do with that skunk I chased away...

The most important thing that I have learned is sit and wait! Might not sound like such a big deal to you unless you where one of those people I plowed over before I learned this important skill. My favorite thing to do is bird watching....I could watch birds for hours, I even follow their shadows around on the ground! So right now my only request for a new home is that you have some birds flying around.

 I thought I had some really good news to share, the people told me I was going to have my own personal trainer.....how cool is that! I am going to have the best looking body in the place, at least that's what I thought.....seems the personal trainer comes with a leash and expects me to be at the other end of it!

I am a 1 year old boy and I have a very important question to ask? What does "OFF" mean? I have heard the word a lot lately and usually in a real loud voice. I think that it may be the reason I lost my last home. My people were older and they kept falling down; the last thing they would say to me was "OFF". I am on the big side and the people tell me, very much in need of training...even the other dogs think I need training. Just this morning one of the older dogs ( a very wise dog) said "good things come to he who knows SIT".

Special Needs: I am a 7 year old Golden\Lab girl and I am special indeed! I have been in a foster home these last few months just getting my bearings and helping my foster mom take care of several puppies. No, my life's ambition is not raising puppies, I was just helping out. I like other dogs although I will tell them how it's going to be and who's in charge. I am not what you would call "Alpha" I just like things to be my way. One of the things I don't like is cats, I just can't figure out a good reason why you would want to have one. I am a housedog and have excellent manners, I believe in keeping my area neat and tidy. Ok, I guess you are probably wondering why I am a "special needs" girl. It's really not that big of a deal.....I have Addison's disease. I take six pills a day for it plus a couple of tablets for my joints; my foster mom found out that joint supplement gives me an extra "boost". We have done a lot of research on my disease and have even found the cheapest way to get my pills. I don't know much about people money but mom says it costs about the same as one large cup of gourmet coffee a day. I don't know how people think but, in my world, the love and companionship I have to offer is worth way more than one cup of fancy coffee! I will need medication and monitoring for the rest of my life, but that's no reason I can't life a normal, active and fun-filled life.

I am a really large imitation Golden Retriever. Right now I have a short hair cut but when it grows back I will look more Golden. I am 4 years old and very much a boy. It's been said that I have an attitude problem but that was before the people here took time to figure me out. I love to be held and petted sometime I even try to sit on the peoples laps which makes everybody laugh. the reason I am here is that I got overly protective of my Mom and would let anybody else be with her. Now that I have learned to like a bunch of people I am much better. I think I will always have a strong protective nature but with training that could be a really good thing.

Boy, have I had an adventure! I came all the way from another state and got to ride in a great big truck! I was hoping the adventure would never end! I got to see so much of the world and everybody was so nice to me, maybe I could find a family who liked to travel...boy, would that be the life! Anyways..I am a 6 year old, Black Lab\Golden Retriever and I get along with everybody. I also really like to swim. My greatest love has to be kids, I just love them and would do everything in my power to protect them and keep them safe.

Foster Update:
It is so nice to have somebody care about what I am really about. My foster family understands that I like to go for walks, love my food, like other dogs and cats. they appreciate that my beautiful soft coat stays on me and not all over the furniture. They also appreciate that I keep my opinions to myself, very seldom uttering a bark!

I am a 3 years old girl…..they thought I was Golden Retriever\Black Lab but because of my size (about 35lbs) it is looking more like Border Collie is mixed up in my doggie DNA. I am very sweet and have an abundance of energy (another clue). I love kids but am not fond of my own kind and as for cats...no way! I have some people friends here and they play with me which is really what I'm all about. I love to run, jump and, with practice, I think I can even fly! My best buddy says that I am a beautiful black butterfly! My motto could be "float like a butterfly"...... oops, I think somebody else already used that one!

 I know I said I wasn't to fond of my own kind but then I met this guy....he's a little older than me and so much bigger....well, anyway we've been hanging out together and I'm thinking maybe I could learn to play well with others...tall, dark and handsome others!

They forgot I was here! I can't believe it, I play with the other dogs, I sleep with the other dogs, they feed me everyday but somehow I never got to tell my story and be an "available dog"! First off, I am a 3 year old girl with long black hair. I am one of those Golden Retriever\Black Lab mixes that people really like, that is if they knew I was here! I have lots of energy and might even enjoy having a jogging partner. Like I said, I like to play with the other dogs, think kids might be fun and would really like to meet some people!

 We all decided that I play too rough to be placed with little kids, but older kids who like to bounce...now that could be fun!

 Finally got around to taking that "cat test"....I failed miserably! Don't worry about the cat, he's fine, really earned those big bucks they pay him this time!

 Daisy is a very social girl and loves being with people and other dogs. Daisy is a very smart girl and has taught herself to open doors....this is useful to her when she is put to bed in one room and decides she would rather sleep in another room!

Hi! I came here with my dad last year and he was adopted right away, I was also adopted but it didn't work out so I'm back here looking to get it right this time. I am a 3 year old boy; dad is a Golden and mom is a beautiful yellow Lab……makes me a short haired Golden\Yellow Retriever! I need an adult or older children home where I can be the baby. I got used to the role of baby and having everyone look after me and I can't seem to shake it. I get along with other dogs and would like to also find a home where I could continue my education.

 Well, I got adopted and then I got unadopted. The family really liked me and said I was a wonderful boy but I have too much "guard dog" in me to be suitable for their family. Anybody looking for a really great dog who will keep ALL the boogie men away?

I am living in a foster home and my foster mom is spending lots of time helping me overcome my fears and to learn to enjoy new adventures. Update:
 Much improved! I was having a problem wanting to get into the car, until the DOG PARK, now I can't wait to go! I also love the water and swimming. I am really liking this "love" thing.....I wish I had known it all of my life. I love to snuggle with my foster mom and tell her how great she is. I am having a lot of fun playing with my foster bro and sometimes I even play ball, although it does take a lot of concentration!

I look like a black Golden Retriever with beautiful black wavy hair. I just got her and haven't had a chance to hang out with the other dogs or take a cat test (I wonder how many questions I will have to answer) so will get back to you on those things. I already know that I just love kids and would be happy to be in a family with lots of kids.

I am an 8 month old boy. My parents are a Golden Retriever and a Black Lab, making me the best of both worlds! I play well with others and the people say I have the most wonderful temperament. A first I thought they meant I was sick, but another dog told me temperament isn't the same thing as temperature......wow, I was worried!

The goal of Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue is to rescue Golden Retrievers. The exception is Golden/Lab mixes and Flatcoats in need. Occasionally dogs not meeting this criteria find their way in, and rather than toss them back out, we have we have decided to give them their own page to tell their stories. Each dog has a "Rescue Buddy" to promote them and act as a contact for that dog.

Do you know what you get when you cross a Collie with a Poodle? That would be Me, and of course my sister, Larissa. There were more of us but they all got adopted and we got left behind. I don’t know how we ended up with a bunch of Golden Retrievers but, hey they play just like any other dog! We are both eighteen months old and have not had much people time. We like you, just haven't learned all the things we should have by now.

My sister, Augustine has told you about us so I don't have a lot to add. I am also 18 months old and wish I had been adopted when I was a baby so, by now, I would have finished all my schooling and be the perfect little girl that I was meant to be. I guess you could think of us "blank slates" and we can be whatever you want us to be! We both got haircuts this week so we are starting over with our curly coats.

Update:
 I would like to have another dog to live with especially if that other dog likes to run and play!

I am the product of a love affair between a Poodle and a Labrador Retriever. My kind is very popular because we don't shed and don't bother people's allergies like a regular Lab does. I am a year old boy and very shy. I didn't get to spend much time with people, just other dogs so I will need a patient family. I am learning what it's like to be loved and I think I am going to really like it!

I am also a 1 year boy looking for that special family who will love me for just being me and then help me grow up to be great and wonderful! All of "Doodles" are grateful that Homeward Bound offered us sanctuary when no one else could take us in and are taking such good care of us while we wait for brave, patient families to come gather us up and love us forever!

They call me Bobby and I haven't decided yet if it's in my best interest to answer! I am an 8 month old boy and was originally thought to be Black Lab\Golden Retriever. That is until someone took a good look at me and said "not with those ears" so I guess we are going with Black Lab\German Sheppard. I am a very sweet, calm, loving boy and I can't wait to start learning things! I don't really care about playing with those tennis balls that seem to be everywhere around here, what I like to play is tag....you know, then you're it! It would be fun to have a bunch of kids so we could all run around and play tag!
